Davante Adams agreed to join Jets under this Aaron Rodgers condition

The New York Jets’ acquisition of Davante Adams a month ago was supposed to provide a jolt to an offense that needed another viable pass catcher (who happened to have an established Aaron Rodgers connection) to steady a season that was quickly sinking.
Instead, Adams’ time in New York has corresponded with a disastrous stretch that has left the two friends’ statuses in doubt for 2025 — despite the wide receiver’s best wishes.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson on Sunday, Adams approved a trade to New York from the Las Vegas Raiders “with the condition that Rodgers would stick around through 2025.”
The Jets’ most recent loss was quite possibly Rodgers’ worst in a Jets uniform, a 31-6 embarrassment that dropped them to 3-7. The rhythm between Rodgers and Adams — two players who had an elite rapport in Green Bay from 2014-21 — has been inconsistent. In four games, Adams has 20 catches on 39 targets for 206 yards and a touchdown. New York gave Las Vegas a 2025 conditional third-round pick that could become a second rounder if Adams reaches some lofty performance clauses.
The bigger questions have shifted away from whether the two veterans have anything left in the tank to whether they will even be on the roster in 2025 as the Jets face another playoff-less offseason and one that could result in a gutting of key pieces all over the organization.
Over The Cap shows that cutting Rodgers ($49 million in dead money) and Adams ($8 million in dead money) would be costly, but letting go of Rodgers would signal a total franchise renovation, which at this point, seems needed.
Rodgers has completed 62.4% of his passes for 2,258 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Jets will attempt to sell the media and their fans that the season is not over as it faces the 4-6 Joe Flacco-led Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
